Week 5
The two above are examples of electric guitar songs with distinct electric guitar solos.
Overall I have decided on my blog post on the guitar and the transformation between the acoustic guitar into the electric guitar. I will be discussing the history and the reason that the electric guitar came to existence.
Over the years electric guitars have gotten a lot more popular in day-to-day music. The acoustic or the traditional guitar was the most common guitar until the early 1900s when the electric guitar came out. This transition led to more genres of music and a more distinct sound. While it was originally introduced in the 1930’s the electric guitar did not get popular until the 1950s and 1960s. According to Wikipedia, the reason that bands used the electric guitar was because “It uses one or more pickups to convert the vibration of its strings into electrical signals, which ultimately are reproduced as sound by loudspeakers. The sound is sometimes shaped or electronically altered to achieve different timbresor tonal qualities.”
These richer qualities often were able to be produced louder as well because the music was portrayed through an amplifier. Many artists prefer the electric guitar because of some of the key differences. One of the main reasons that people prefer the electric guitar is because of how the sound is produced. While the acoustic guitar is produced solely by the instrument itself, some people prefer the amplified sound, especially when it comes from a lighter instrument. The electric guitar is usually lighter than the acoustic guitar. According to a website by Pick up Music, “Electric guitars can have thinner necks and are overall smaller because they don't rely on natural acoustics to create the sound.” There is also a difference in the sound, while the acoustic does have a more natural vibrant sound, the electric has a more customizable sound making it more compatible with multiple genres.
I have played both the acoustic and the electric guitar, and while I am a fan of the acoustic more, the electric guitar does have some perks. I like the fact that it can be played louder and it is easier to find that exact note that you are looking for. Overall both are great instruments with pros and cons the electric guitar is definitely the next step in modern guitars.

I agree with you when you say that both the acoustic and electric guitar have their own pros and cons, and while I really enjoy both, I’d have to say the electric guitar is my favorite. The acoustic guitar is capable of making some very beautiful sounds, but I personally love the type of music played on the electric guitar. I think that if you enjoy listening to guitar, you should try listening to “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd as it showcases the amazing music capable of being played by the electric guitar.
ReplyDeleteBoth of the songs you linked are songs that my dad would play in the car when I was younger. I think it's really cool how the innovation of the electrical guitar allows for great works like the two above to be produced. The range of styles that can be played between the electrical and acoustic guitar makes it my favorite instrument. I am also a big fan of the sound of the acoustic guitar, especially as it's used in country music. I think Zach Bryan would be a good artist to explore if you prefer the acoustic sound.
